camp Tutira Maia

Camp

Are we there yet I say impatiently to Sophie. Maia she says we have only just left school. As seconds and minutes went by we kind of got bored. At first we just started to talk and then 5 minutes it was a party in the back of the bus except Giorgia who was reading a book. Sophie started the song just keep swimming after that I was CRAZY. All the year six’s started to sing while the year fives just stared us in shock. Then I said  in a super pumped voice this is you next year. Praises who thought she was a year six joined in. When we got there we were super excited and pumped to see Ryan and see our cabins and to see who we would be with. Lucky us we were aloud to pick one side was the  boys and the other was girls. We all rushed to the cabins to see which one were in. The best sadly the six cabin was taken so we went in the four me,Sativa,Sophie and Alys. In the two room was Giorgia and Anupreet as we were sorting out the rooms Ryan came in and talked to us about the rules at camp. My highlights at camp were the flying kiwi, the night walk, canoeing and the mud walk. Ryan set a challenge to see the most muddiest girl and boy and of course. I did get it and Sukhmaan. When it was the last day with Ryan he started to talk how well behaved we were and gave me and Sukhmaan  chocolate bars. On the last day we did some learning about the trees and the environment and native plants. When we had to go back to school we were even more bored then the way up here and it was boiling. We had to turn on the fans and have a lot of water but I lost my drink bottle and that was the only rescores we could use to stay cool. When we arrived at school junior cross country was on we got to sit under the trees and watch them go. Then we got to see all of our friends again after three whole days.

Camp giorgia

Camp Tutira - day2
On the 2nd day at camp we did heaps of things. First, we got out of bed and had breakfast. I had vegemite toast and cornflakes with pears.
Next, Ryan the outdoor education teacher, met us out on the deck outside of our cabins. He told us what we were going to do today and who would be doing what at what time. All of us went on the low ropes first. We got taught the basic movement of being on the ropes and what to do if your not on the ropes. You have to stand with one foot forward, one foot back and you have to hold up your hands to catch the people on the ropes fall.
There were 4 types of ropes. 3 were with a partner and 1 was by yourself. Funny thing about this was, I had great balance on the ropes but I hop off and I can’t stand properly.
After the low ropes, we went back to the cabins and had morning tea.
Ms Brady, called everybody over and we set off in our groups to lake Tutira. Our group was with Candy, Kael’s mum. We got to the lake to find Ryan parked there waiting for us. He had come over early to set up the canoes and everything else. Our group, Sophie, Maia, Alys, Sativa, Anupreet and I, were on the canoes first. We had Mr. experienced Ryan with us as an adult supervisor which helped us a lot. We had race in our double-canoe catamaran with the other 2 teams. Ms Brady’s team one. It was a race to get the closest to the red and white buoy.
While the other 3 teams did the canoeing we did some problem solving activities. We did a math one, where you had to work out how to make some numbers by standing on numbered pads, we also did a game called mind create, where you have to try to find a path around 25 pads.
When the canoeing and problem solving activities had finished, we went back to camp for lunch.
The last activity for the day was the mud walk. I tried to only get muddy when I had too.(it worked!!!) I was the first inline behind Ryan which was good but bad. He kept trying to get mud all over me to get me really muddy. The good news was though that when ever there was a little stream trickling down he rocks I could wash my hands in it before it got muddy!
I loved my 2nd day at camp and I can’t wait until camp Waitomo!!!

The Unexpected

Cameron’s fists were clenched in a tight ball and his knuckles were turning white.
The next thing I knew Cameron’s fist collided with Jays nose. He was covering it with his hand and groaning in pain. Even though Jay’s palm was covering his nose I knew that there was blood dripping out of it. An angry Cameron was now storming down the halls and towards the front doors.
I called after him while running towards his direction. The sound of the glass doors slamming shut cut me off.

I ran outside and saw him heading towards the forest right beside school.

“Cameron wait up!” I yelled,
But his pace became quicker.
I kept calling him and eventually ended up right behind him.
I was almost sprinting to keep up.
“Go away… please.” He hissed.
I stood still and watched him hurry deeper into the woods.

The next thing I saw made me blink several times and rub my eyes to make sure I was seeing clearly. I was.
I could see cocoa coloured fur covering Cameron’s body.
I’m not saying that he had turned into an immensely hairy male.
I’m saying that he had turned into a wolf.
A huge wolf.

His chocolate shaded eyes were glaring into mine.
I could feel my heart thumping. However, I wasn’t afraid.
His eyes were sharp with a hint of softness.
I knew that if he hurt me he would regret it. A lot.

My mind was running at full speed. Everything that had gone on in the past 5 minutes was bizarre.

I was asking myself questions even though I already knew some of the answers.
Cameron’s a shape-shifter?
He is a gigantic wolf and I never knew?
The question that I was most curious about was how?
How can he shape-shift?

I was so sure that the whole people being werewolves’ thing were fictitious.
Even though I just saw a human shape-shift into a wolf, part of me is thinking that this is fake. That this is just a dream that feels so real. Another part of me is hoping that all of this isn't a dream, and hoping that Cameron is a werewolf.

The reason for that being is because not many people, if any can say that their best friend can shape-shift into a gigantic werewolf.

ipad imovie trailers

Today the year 6's left for their camp at Tutira. The year 7's as well as some honorary year 7's have worked on making movie trailers. Take a look. What do you think?

The Ranfurly Shield

We had an exciting time this week when we went and saw the 'Mighty Magpies' bring the Ranfurly Shield to Hastings. Check out some photos of us and some of our stories.
The other day the sun shone upon us and the bell rang for an early morning tea. I raced out with my friends Danielle and Rhiannon to talk to our guitar teacher Naomi. We asked “Can we go to town to see the Magpies and the Ranfurly Shield?” She happily let us go. The loud bell rang and our school converged on the centre of town to meet the Magpies and the well known Ranfurly Shield. It was very loud and I felt like the whole world was going to enclose on me. The loud bagpipes were playing in the distance as the Magpies came up on the back of the ute. All you could hear was screaming. I felt very proud as they walked up with the shield because they did so well and it was very cool to have a rugby team from Hawke’s Bay win the shield. A lot of speeches and outstanding performances later they split up and signed some autographs. It was very hectic as all of us tried to get as many as possible. I got three and one was from the Mayor Lawrence Yule. There it ended. I walked back to school with my buddy Ashlee feeling proud to be in Hawke’s Bay!

“Look there they are!” everyone was shouting. The bagpipes were going, everyone was cheering, because the Magpies were here with the Ranfurly shield. We were at the civic square outside the Hastings public library, sitting on the cold concrete  with the sweltering sun on our faces. Then all the Magpies jumped out of the back of the trucks, then formed a line while a kapahaka group performed for them. Once that was over they walked up the back but on the way they signed some autographs and gave out some hi-fives. The whole team was there apart from Israel Dagg. He wasn’t there because he was training with the All Black’s. Then the Captain of the Magpies Mike Coman said a few words and held up the shield for everyone to see. Then Hastings boys and the kapahaka group did tika tonu at the end. When we were walking back we got to have a photo with the one and only RANFURLY SHIELD! I was at the back holding it while the rest of the class had a hand on it. I felt really proud to be in the bay at that time because the Ranfurly shield was in Hawke’s Bay, and I hope they win next week.

‘’Yay yay yay’’ I said to myself we are going to see the Ranfurly shield.
Were at the parade ‘’no magpies though’’.
A lot of people are there and I could only see one school Riverslea school.
‘’Oh my gosh it is so hot’’.
Bagpipes are getting played.
Magpies on trucks.
I’m so excited.
By the time the Magpies got to the back of the library, there was a whole lot of people at the back the library.
There was about 5 school there was Riverslea , Hastings Intermediate , Hastings Central and a few more.
A few more hopped off.
Someone spoke into a microphone, and told everyone when they last had the shield was. Mike Coman said a few words about his team and the shield. Boy’s High did a fantastic haka. We were allowed to get things signed. My favourite players are Zac Guildford, Ihaia West, Alby Mathewson, Chris Eaton, Mike Coman, Gillies Kaka and Karl Lowe. I touched the shield, it felt really good. When the parade was finished we all went back to school. We went back to class and all I could think about was how exciting the day had been.

Duffy Theatre

We were lucky to have the Duffy Theatre visit St Joseph's school this week. They told the story of how Duffy lost his words words and couldn't read. It was an entertaining show with lots and lots of humour. Here are some pictures from the show.

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA

A rich couple’s Porsche broke down and they needed a place to stay coincidentally there was a hotel nearby. They went inside and asked how much a room was, the hotel owner said “Free but enter at your own risk”. The husband asked “why”? the hotel owner said “you’ll find out”. So they got a room and the number was 397.

They got their room and unpacked, by the time they had finished unpacking it was 9.00 pm. At 12.00 pm they heard thumping and screaming, from next door in 396. The next morning the lady asked is there anyone else here? The hotel owner said lots of people come but no one goes.

That night the woman got woken up by screaming and thumping, so the woman got out of bed and went next door and looked through the keyhole. She saw that the room was white she then tried to open the door but it was locked.

The next night the women woke up by screaming and thumping again. She then got up and went next door, again looked through the keyhole but this time the room was orange, again she tried opening the door but once again it was locked.

On the 3rd night she was yet again woken up by screaming and thumping, so once more she looked through the keyhole, to find that the room was RED. In the morning she went down stairs and asked the hotel owner what was haunting the room, the hotel owner said a woman with a white dress, orange hair and red eyes.

The woman asked if she could please have the key to that room, so that night she woke up at 12.00 pm and went next door she unlocked the door. “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh” she screamed she got pulled in and door slammed shut. The husband then rushed in.

And neither of them came out
THE END? Dun dun duuuuuuun.

Grim Reaper Broadway

The Grim (Grim Reaper) sneaks up on a little girl with an ice-cream. The girl turns around after Grims  attempt to scare her and she says “are you from the circus?” He sighs and says “I need to get a real job”.

He sings up for a job which was stand up comedy. “How about that airline food”. *Cricket sounds*. “Tough crowd eh”. A guy at the front throws a tomato at his head. Grim says “who threw that?” Everyone says “boo, get off the stage!” After the show he goes into an ally and starts drinking beer. After his beer he sings a little bit of Akons song “lonely” and then says “you were always right mother, I was never meant to be a comedian, I should have been a plumber like you!”

After his little sulk, he sees a sign reading: Broadway where all your dreams come true. “That’s it” he says “I’m going Broadway”. A little while after he decides to go Broadway he flies to Hollywood. He stands in front of a Major Theatre and starts talking to a supervisor.

The supervisor gives him the job of going Broadway. Grim performs and everyone starts booing him. He decides after the show “maybe Hollywood isn’t the one for me, But California still can be!”

“Ok” Grim says “I have arrived in California and I am looking for a place wanting a comedian, it could be a bar or a restaurant.” He decides to work at a bar, and as soon as he walks in an old lady yells at him “you killed my son”. “lady, calm down” grim says ‘I am here for a performance”. The lady says back “oh, ok but you still killed my son”!

He performs and his most not boring joke is “what did the statue say to the other statue? Statue bro?” He is still getting boos at his performance and a hobo steals his scythe, so Grim yells at him “Oi, for the second time, why do you want my scythe?” The hobo says “I am the Grim Reaper now!” *Grim shoots a beam out of his hand and it zaps the hobo*. The hobo yelps and says “ok ok, you can have it back”.
 The End….. To Be Continued…..
Will Grim ever find a job, will the hobo actually give it back or will he run away?
